Observation on treatment of early periodontitis with periodontal endoscope

18-03-2023

The periodontal endoscope is an endoscopic system applied to oral diagnosis and treatment, which consists of endoscope, light source, endoscope camera, optical fiber, monitor and water delivery structure. With the help of an endoscope, doctors can obtain multi-directional and multi-angle periodontal images and perform periodontal treatment under visualization. With a periodontal endoscope, doctors can accurately and efficiently remove subgingival plaque, dental calculus and other local stimulating factors of periodontal disease. The application of periodontal endoscopes in oral clinical makes the treatment of periodontal disease more vivid, accurate and fast.

From May 2019 to May 2020, 60 patients with periimplantitis were randomly divided into an endoscope-assisted group and a traditional method group, with 30 cases in each group. The endoscope-assisted group used a periodontal endoscope for ultrasonic and manual instrument for subgingival scaling, while the traditional method group used a conventional method for ultrasonic and manual instrument for subgingival scaling. The plaque index (PLI), gingival index (GI) and teeth were analyzed and compared between the two groups before and 3 months after treatment. After 3 months of treatment, PLI, GI and periodontal PD in both groups were improved. The average PLI difference between the endoscope-assisted group and the traditional method group before and after treatment was 1.23±0.77 and 0.70±0.84, respectively. The average value of GI difference is 1.27±1.05 and 0.63±0.81 respectively. The average PD difference was (1.57±1.01)mm and (0.87±0.97)mm, respectively. The three data of PLI, GI and periodontal PD all showed that the treatment effect of the endoscope-assisted group was significantly better than that of the traditional method group, and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (t=2.563, t=2.620, t = 2.739; P0.05)In the treatment of early periimplantitis, the application of periodontal endoscope assisted subgingival scaling can flexibly guide the operator to operate, remove plaque, stones and adhesive around the implant more efficiently, accurately and thoroughly, and make its treatment effect better and last longer. It is a method worth popularizing in clinical.
